Width measurements and soles

The importance of different widths

Some people have wider feet and others narrow ones. That’s why wearing the right width of shoe is just as important as the right length. A well-fitting width prevents pressure points and discomfort, and avoids complaints such as blisters, calluses and corns. The correct width also helps ensure a natural posture and improved balance. You can only experience true comfort with every step if your shoes’ length and width are right for your foot.

Which widths are available

The most common width measurements are indicated by letters, with the width increasing from narrow to extra wide. In the Netherlands and many other European countries, sizes generally range from C and D (extra narrow), E and F (narrow), G (standard), H (wide), J and K (extra wide) to M (very wide).

Our widths

Xsensible sneakers are available in size G (standard fit) or H (wide fit). If you see an X after the width measurement, such as GX, this means that Xsensible Stretch material has been incorporated in the shoe. This patented technology ensures that the shoes adjust to your foot as the day goes on. In fact, this also means that our shoes can accommodate a wider foot size. In some cases, this means that an H-size foot may fit into a G-sized shoe. Visit a retail outlet and try on various models to find the one that’s the perfect fit for your feet.

Choose from these widths:

• G: suitable for standard feet
• GX: suitable for standard to wide feet
• H: suitable for wide feet
• HX: suitable for wide to very wide feet

How to determine the right length

Measure your feet at the end of the day, when they’re often slightly swollen. Stand upright on a sheet of paper and draw the outline of both feet. Then measure the length from the heel to the end of the longest toe. You can calculate your shoe size by multiplying the length of your foot (in cm) by 1.5 and then adding 1.5 cm. A foot measuring 25 cm would then be approximately size 39 (25 × 1.5 + 1.5 = 39).

How to determine your width

Once you’ve determined your length you can try on shoes of different widths. Walk around in the shoes for a while and see how they feel on your feet. If your toes feel squeezed, try a sneaker with a wider sole. If your feet are sliding around when you walk because your sneakers are too wide, go for a narrower sneaker.

The Hiking sole is made for adventure! This sole is similar to the Citywalker 2.0 but with a tread area that’s suitable for rougher terrain. The shoe’s sturdy profile ensures that it offers maximum grip on any surface, whether you’re walking on wet grass or rocky terrain. Dry-X technology means that all shoes with this sole are water repellent and breathable, so your feet stay dry and comfortable. The Hiking sole offers the ideal mix of stability, grip and comfort for all your outdoor adventures. 

SWX Collection - Width H, HX

The SWX sole is renowned for its maximum cushioning and dynamic rolling movement. The torsion enhancement prevents unwanted twisting of the foot, helping to prevent injuries and fatigue. This sole combines a soft, flexible walking experience with the necessary support, ideal for those seeking comfort combined with protection.

Next Generation Collection - Widths G, GX, H, HX

The Next Generation sole also offers a wide tread area, making it suitable for almost all feet, from average to extra wide.
