Johan Verschuur established ‘Nimco Schoenenfabrieken’ in Nijmegen. The name Nimco stands for Nimweegse Combinatie. What began as a traditional workshop expanded to become a specialist in comfortable shoes; laying the foundation for Xsensible.

Adriaan Krol acquired the loss-making company from the family in 1967. Due to competition from countries such as Italy, the Dutch shoe industry was experiencing a difficult period. Krol saw the potential and acquired the complete company and factory. In the following years, he sold the entire stock and converted part of the factory to retail space, which enabled him to reduce the losses and lay the foundation for a new start.
In 1984, the three sons of Adriaan Krol joined the company. Max, Ruud and Jan each took on their own responsibilities, contributing to the company’s continued growth. The business developed with a clear focus on innovation, quality and continuity, and specialized in custom-made children’s shoes.
During a flight, Jan Krol noticed how passengers took off their shoes because their feet were swelling up. This gave him an idea: a shoe that adapts to your feet. Nimco then developed stretch material. What began as an orthopaedic prototype expanded to become an innovation that offers exceptional comfort and flexibility. This innovation forms the basis of Xsensible, with its focus on comfortable and fashionable shoes
